Colour Theory

If it's purple
I think that colour in film is vital to story telling and it adds another level of depth that the audience can interpret. I have taken notes from a book called ‘If it’s Purple, Someone’s Gonna Die’. It talks about the power of colour in story telling. After reading about the different meanings and interpretations that colour can portray, I am certain that I want to use this tool with my project.

Here is a brief summary of the colours spoken about:

Red
The caffeinated colour, aggressive, anxoius, power, sensual. Is used to represent anxiety levels, heart rate, speed and the manipulation of space.

Yellow
The contrary colour, obsession, anxiety producing, hostile, warning, power, life and energy.

Blue
Tranquil, sadness, passive, disloyalty, powerlessness, intellect, can also represent emotional state.

Orange
Least dramatic, upbeat, family, warm, welcoming, exotic, generally nice.

Green
Split personality, health, danger, irony, corruption, ominous, evil, illness.

Purple
Ritual, magic, spiritual, mystical, death, loss, transformation, domain of the unseen, inspires illusion, asexual.

These are some stills from my final production. The only reoccuring colour that I have tried to use is yellow. I have done this to try and represent obsession in particular. This is because a lot of phrases are repeated and key words.
